Travel Information

Welcome to our Travel Soccer Program for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 season!

We're back!

As we navigate this new environment, VSA has been exploring alternative ways to form travel teams for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 season. We were prepared to form teams without tryouts using coach and trainer evaluations. But thanks to the recent changes in state-issued guidelines and gathering limits,
VSA will now be holding skill-based tryouts the week of June 22, 2020. These will be short non-contact sessions that will focus on footwork, passing and dribbling. We intend to maximize social distancing and adhere to the gathering limitations and safety protocols recently set forth by the Department of Health.

Tryouts will be held on the turf fields at the Echelon Soccer Complex.  Rain dates will be Friday, June 26th and Saturday, June 27th. You must be registered to attend tryouts. Registration instructions are listed below. Protocols for the tryouts will be sent to all registrants prior to your tryout date.

We understand that this is short notice and parents may have concerns with their children participating in soccer activities under the current climate. Attendance is therefore not mandatory to be placed on a team for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 season. We can assess existing VSA travel players using the evaluations already submitted by the team professional trainers and head coaches. As we do not have these assessments for players who are new to VSA, we encourage them to attend so that we can assess their skill level. Any new player who does not attend but is interested in playing for VSA should contact our Director of Coaching, Jim Schade, for a player-specific discussion. In either case, we will make every effort to place your child on the team that is best suited to promote their soccer education and development.

If you wish to attend but can’t make your time slot, please contact our Administrator, Donna Pallante at [email protected], or Director of Coaching, Jim Schade, at [email protected], to arrange to attend a different session.

If you or your child are currently experiencing any virus-like symptoms (coughing, sneezing, fever, etc.) please stay safe at home and contact our Director of Coaching for arrangements.

Parents – as per New Jersey Youth Soccer guidance, we prefer that you not go to the fields to watch the tryouts. If you do, as per Department of Heath guidelines, you must maintain social distancing and should wear a mask or other form of face covering. Players do not have to wear masks during tryouts.

When is the travel soccer season?

The travel soccer season consists of a 10 game fall season (Sept-Nov) and a 10 game spring season (March-May). You can expect twice a week practice with a trainer and there is generally a couple weeks of practice prior to the start of each season, as well. Each team will also participate in a few tournaments, one is our Voorhees Memorial Day tournament and the others are up to the coach and team.

Who is eligible to tryout for a team?
A player must be born in the year 2013 or earlier to try out for a travel team.

All in-town players are welcome to tryout for all teams. Anyone residing in Berlin, Gibbsboro, Voorhees, and the Eastern Regional High School District is considered an in-town player. Refer to our travel rules (section 5) under Rules & Regulations on this website.

Can out-of-town players try out and make a team?
-Out-of-town players are allowed and encouraged to tryout for all teams at the U11's and older age groups (players born in the year 2010 or older).
-Out-of-town players of ANY age group who have participated in our VSA intramural program for one calendar year (both Fall & Spring seasons) are considered to be in-town players and are encouraged to try out for all teams, even the younger age groups U8-U10.

With the mandated changes in youth soccer, how will teams be formed?
Under the new policy mandated by USSF, teams will be formed by birth year (January 1st- December 31st). Fall 2020 U8’s will be made up of players born in 2013, U9’s from 2012 and so on.

Can you tryout for the age group above you?

Only Fall 2020 U13's & Older (players born in the year 2008 or earlier) will have the opportunity to tryout for the age above them, but still need to qualify for a team. Any player attempting to play up that doesn’t make a team will need to tryout again with their calendar age group.

IMPORTANT: If your child would like to try out for the age above them, you must first register them for the tryout for their calendar birth year and then just email us at [email protected] to let us know so we can manually place him/her in the older tryout.

What is the cost to play on a travel team?

The registration fee to participate in the VSA travel soccer program for the 2020/21 season is as follows:

U8-U10: $285 per player
U11 & Up: $320 per player

You will have the option to pay in full or you can choose to pay in 3 installments.

Please Note: This fee does not include the cost of trainer fees, which each team will incur. You can expect this cost to be from $275 for U8 players to $300 & Up for all other age groups. This fee will be paid once in the fall season and once in the spring season. The coach for each team will be able to provide you with the exact cost  and details for payment of these training fees.

What do you need to do to tryout for a travel team?

Tryouts are FREE. Each player must register for tryouts online. There are no exceptions. Registration for tryouts opens Monday, March 9, 2020. For some older winter/spring teams, tryouts may not be held. However, all players must still register online for the "tryouts".

All players are required to attend at least one tryout; though you encouraged to attend both tryouts. The tryout schedule for each age group is posted to the right.

In case of bad weather, please check your email before you leave for the field that day or night.

All players will be notified via email as to whether they made the team or not. If you are selected for a team, you must accept the position within 3 days of the email notification to secure your spot on the team and all fees become due and payable.
